Rally for free speech! Now that my attorney is paid for, let's show the world that Connecticut will not tolerate any impingement on civil rights by gathering in front of the CT Supreme Court and rallying for free speech.

After the rally, at about 8:45 a.m., my attorney and I will proceed in a peaceful and orderly fashion into the court house on Lafayette Street two blocks away.

According to CTNewsjunkie.com, about 100 people showed up at the Free Kenny Legal Defense Fund Bash Friday night at La Paloma Sabanera.

I was thrilled, as I was expecting maybe 40 people. We raised enough to cover my legal expenses (and the beer, wine and food for the party), so put those checks on hold if you haven't written one out yet.

A huge thank you goes out to everyone who attended. While I knew many of the faces, there were concerned citizens who I had never met that came out in support. I'll write more completely about it later this week.

These patriots had either heard about the arrest and my subsequent fundraiser on the radio, seen it online or read about it in the dead tree media, and decided they couldn't allow the injustice to stand without voicing their support for me.

Awesome. As was Colin McEnroe's column in today's Courant. And make sure you didn't miss Kevin Rennie's treatise in last week's THC.

Henry Lowendorf's second email this week called a meeting for peace in front of Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman's Constitution Plaza office in Hartford for Thursday, Jan. 18 from 12 to 1 pm.

"On January 10th President Bush announced the sending of 20,000 more U.S. troops to fight in Iraq," Lowendorf's email said. "Existing forces already in Iraq will have their tour of duty extended. Units scheduled for deployment will have their departures moved up."Link...

Stitch and bitch took on a whole new meaning over at the Weavings of War: Fabrics of Memory exhibit at the Institute for Community Research in Hartford.

The exhibit, which closed Saturday night, featured needlepoint narratives of progressive struggles for liberation. Sewn tapestries Southeast Asia, rugs from Iran and Pakistan, and quilts from Chile and South Africa told of the ravages faced by ordinary people in wartime.
